About Ardsley Today

3/5/08 -- With 7 years living in Ardsley under our belt, we now know enough to know what we don't know. And that is plenty. We live our lives bombarded by information, unfortunately very little of it is about the village or school district that we live in.

It's not that this information is hidden, or that the suppliers of this information are hard to locate, but there's never been one single place where we could go to get the full picture. Sure, we could go to the Ardsley Village Website, or to the Ardsley School District Website, or the Town of Greenburgh site, but who can do all that? And who wants to?

We are going to try to pull it all together. It's something no other site does, and it's not going to be easy. But we'll rely on publicly available information, and a little digging, as well as help from our readers (uh, that's you. Yes, YOU). Call it a blog. Call it hyper-local. Call it citizen journalism. Whatever it is, we just hope it's useful to you.

Will it be "fair and balanced"? Probably not. We're not the New York Times, and we won't strive to be. This is most certainly a blog and, from time to time, will reflect the opinion of its authors. But we will allow -- no, encourage -- discussion, debate and dissent. Comments will be moderated, but only lightly, to make sure nothing untoward is happening. In other words, if you don't like what you see -- comment early and comment often.

One important note. We're not affiliated in any official way with the Village of Ardsley. We hope to work with the village to make sure you know what you need to know, but this site is not in any way officially connected with the village.

Who are we? We've been creating websites of one type or another since 1995 (the Internet Stone Age!). We have children in the Ardsley School District. We subscribe to The Enterprise, but are disappointed that it's not more timely, not more insightful and not available online.

At this point, this is an experiment. We know from experience, that the best websites in the world don't start out that way. They start out small and they post, then change. Then they post again and change again, and at some point, they hit a sweet spot. That's the spot where the site supplies what the users want, before they know they want it. Eventually, we may get there...or we may not. What is it they say? "The Journey is the Reward?" Yeah, we keep telling ourselves that.

Anyway, if you think this is a good idea and you want to help. It's fairly easy to contribute. Just send your thoughts, stories, news reports and upcoming events to: editor@ardsleytoday.com

And let's see what happens.
